Today, when first-time job seekers in Tier 2 India want to find safe, local, and entry-level employment, they have to navigate complex, English-first apps or rely on informal WhatsApp and Facebook groups. This is unacceptable because these informal channels are prone to fraud and don’t support guided applications or resume-building.
We envision a world where job seekers feel empowered, supported, and confident in their journey toward employment. We are bringing this world about through simplified onboarding flows, vernacular support, and emotionally intelligent UX.
To redesign the early experience of LinkedIn Lite such that resume completion and first-job applications among Tier 2 users increase by 2.5x through reduced friction, improved discovery, and personalized trust cues.
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional networking platform with over 900M users globally. While traditionally used by white-collar professionals, LinkedIn has expanded its ecosystem to include job seekers, students, blue-collar workers, and companies of all sizes.
LinkedIn Lite was developed specifically for emerging markets like India to serve users with limited data plans, slower connectivity, and lower-end smartphones. It offers a lightweight experience but still inherits many of the same UI and UX paradigms as the full version which doesn’t always serve the expectations or needs of users in semi-urban or rural India.
Reality: Despite 10M+ installs of LinkedIn Lite in India, fewer than 20% of new users complete a job application. High dropout is observed during resume upload and job search stages. The majority of users are unfamiliar with formal application flows.
